Who Are You?

That’s complicated. I’m a husband, a son, a brother, a father, an uncle, a nephew, a neighbor, a grandpa, a church member, a pastor, a friend, a citizen, and probably a few other things—no wonder I’m tired! Identity is a big deal these days. In spite of the many roles we have, people want to be recognized for something else or something more, even if it is rather bizarre.

The Stones

Today I’m thinking about the stones, not the rolling ones, the living ones. The rolling ones will eventually be gone but the living ones will never die. The rolling ones are quite popular but there are millions of living stones whose names we do not know.

Whew! The Calvary family has been “up and at it” this week. Over 125 children attended VBS. 40 teens and adults served in various capacities. Over ten children accepted Christ as Savior. If you didn’t get to see the castle...

Love

Here is one of my favorite quotes about love, Dallas Willard wrote, “Love does not do well in actuality, in the grimy grind of life. Perhaps it is because of the way it is exalted around us, it proves to be a considerable disappointment to most people, and something one can’t really count on.” I confess, I’ve spent much of my life frustrated with love.

Fear

Fear is another one of those English words that needs context to understand. There is healthy fear. We should fear fire, large trucks coming at us, and wild animals. Healthy fear often delivers us from danger. There are also irrational fears. The list of phobias can become rather humorous. Then, there are the fears that are often referred to in the Bible. We read in the Old Testament that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
