"Who Is Jesus?"

Very few people deny that Jesus existed. We have historical verification from multiple sources that point to His first century presence. However, there is some disagreement about His nature and mission. Many will say He was a good man. In fact, people quote Jesus whenever it is to their advantage because He was a good man. Some will say He was a prophet—but no more than a prophet. Some, especially early in the history of the church, believed Jesus was an apparition, in other words, He appeared to be a human but wasn’t. Orthodox Christianity has maintained that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God. Only Begotten means “one of a kind.” He is “one of a kind” because He is God and man. The God-man. He is Jesus the Christ. He is the Anointed One of God. Anointed by the Holy Spirit at His baptism and demonstrated to be the Son of God with power by His resurrection from the dead. When we refer to belief in Jesus, we are referring to belief in Him as He has disclosed Himself in the Word. To deny the deity of Christ is to be anti-Christ. It’s not enough to believe that there was a man named Jesus. Saving and sanctifying faith is founded on the belief that Jesus Christ is who the New Testament describes Him to be, the Eternal Son of God; who took on flesh, who died for our sins, who rose from the dead, who ascended to the Father, AND, who is coming again for His people.
