"The Gospel"

We’re going to take a week off from our study in 1 Samuel. While these Old Testament stories are edifying and challenging to us and we often see the gospel in them, it is possible to miss the most important truth that we can proclaim, the gospel of life. “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” Life and death are at stake! God’s offer of relationship with Himself is the good news. He is the Source of life and we want life! We look for life in lots of funny places but what we really want and what we really need is only found in Him. So, this week as we prepare for the Communion Table, let’s make sure we are really prepared for life by having relationship with Him. Of course, if we are properly prepared for life, we’ll be prepared for death. The gospel certainly includes getting us ready for a good death. But let’s not forget that the gospel prepares us for a good life. There is much that God wants to save us from. He is committed to our salvation, body, soul and spirit. Jesus Christ accomplished all that is needed to live a whole life, and the gospel includes how we go about doing that. The Communion Table reminds us that the Body and Blood of Jesus was given for our forgiveness. And, the eating and drinking reminds us that we are nourished by Him for life. We’re going to focus on good news this Sunday, and we need it!
