I was blessed with a good dad. He was a good man, he loved the Lord, he loved my mom and he loved his sons, all three of us. It wasn’t always clear what his intentions were. That wasn’t his fault, it was mine. However, to say it was my “fault” might be a little too strong, the real problem was, I was immature. When we are young, we are immature by default. We have to grow into wisdom. As an adult I can look back and see what my dad’s intentions were. He took us to church to help us learn the gospel and connect to a Christian community. He made us work so we’d appreciate the creative mandate, the effect of the fall and the value of money. He disciplined us so that we would learn self-control and realize that there are consequences for our behavior. He took us with him to visit other people whether it was for business or pleasure so we could see how to interact with respect. He served in our church so we would learn that we are not to be consumers but active Body parts in God’s work. I can see all that now, but as a child, I really had no idea what was going on. If you are a believer in Jesus, you have a good Father. Do you know what His intentions are? Did you know that getting you to Heaven forever is only part of His agenda? Did you know that a comprehensive view of salvation includes past, present and future? Do you know why the Father gave us the Holy Spirit? Were you aware that you were being watched this week by angels who are interested in what salvation means in your life? Growing in Christ means a greater awareness of our Father’s intentions. They are good beyond belief!
