As most of you may remember, our Missions Weekend in November had to postponed due to sickness. It appeared to be an interruption in our plans. Now, here we are, the second week of Advent and we are having our Missions Weekend. It might appear to be an interruption to our Advent lessons but it is an interruption that isn’t. What do I mean? Advent is the greatest missions movement in the history of mankind! When we think of missions, we think of taking the good news of God’s mercy and grace to people that God loves. That is exactly what happened in the Incarnation and the advent (arrival) of God the Son. In His case, the missionary came as a baby but the Angelic announcement was clear, “good tidings of great joy for all people!” Jesus brought the good news of God’s mercy and grace to the people He loves. So, having a Missions Weekend during Advent is an interruption that isn’t. It is out of the ordinary but it is not an interruption, it is actually a reminder of the great mission of God. He came to seek and to save those who are lost. Let’s rejoice in these truths. Let’s celebrate the great mission of God. Let’s join Him with open eyes and ears for opportunities to give reasons for the hope that is in us.
