You have heard us talk about this before, “one of the most important things about you is what comes into your mind when you think about God.” And, “what you think God thinks about you” may be just as important. Do you believe God can be pleased with you? Do you live with a constant sense of dread because you think God is perpetually unhappy with the human race and you specifically? Answers to these questions can affect our outlook on life and the life hereafter. Like so many issues in life there are ditches on this one too. We can either live in the ditch believing in God’s perpetual displeasure or swing over to the ditch on the other side that because God is love, He is happy with everyone and “it’s all good.” The writer of Hebrews brings us back into the middle with this simple statement, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” So, God is not happy with some people, and yet it is possible to please Him! The key word in Hebrews 11 is “faith.” The people that received the thumbs up from God were people that believed God in their specific context. In other words, the examples are of people that had situations and circumstances that called for trust in God. Because they believed, He was pleased with them. What is your situation right now? Are you facing it in faith? Are you believing God? You may already be a Christian. Maybe you have already trusted Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, but, are you trusting God for what is going on in your life right now? You have trusted Him with your hereafter, will you trust Him for the here?
